  "Wrap the Filling With Dough,
    Wrap Our Feelings With Laughter"

Marutamagoya makes Marutama enterprise.

Here, we work with "wrapping our feelings with laughter" as our motto, using an original batter made from Hokkaido's flour, rice powder, and soy pulp, which is used to wrap up plenty of filling made with local ingredients. We make our variety of pirozhki faithfully to the original, by lightly baking them rather than frying them. By serving a number of other menus including soup, we aim to create a place where our customers can enjoy the flavor of the ingredients and become happier and healthier.

  "A Place Where Whole Eggs Can Hatch"

Marutama's names comes from "まるごと卵がかえる場所" translating to "a place where whole eggs hatch", taking parts of the words "まるごと(marugoto)", meaning whole and "卵(tamago)", meaning egg. Our goal is to make a place where each person who works here gets a chance to let their strengths hatch from their shells.

Through our staff's cooperation regardless of gender, nationality, blood relationship, or age, we strive to build a place where everyone can use their strengths to create a unique product that our customers can enjoy, so everyone can work happily and earn a living where they can live independent, fulfilling lives.

Finally, our last goal is МИР2MEAL(mir ni meal).
World Peace.

In Russian, the word мир(mir) means both "world" and "peace". Therefore, "мир ни мир(mir ni mir)" means "a peaceful world". We connect 2 things, "world" and "peace", with "meals" in МИР2MEAL.

We respect the land of "Hakodate", and work to connect the history between Japan and other nations, such as Russia, with new culture which can be spread by our food, and we create a space where people who gather can earnestly think about world peace.

In front of food, all people are equals. Don't forget the spirit of playfulness, generosity, and humor.

Nobuko Kitami

Born in Chiba prefecture. Graduated from Hokkaido University School of Law.

Studied abroad as a government financed student at The University of Massachusetts,Amherst.

Lived in Hakodate since 1999. Opened Marutamagoya in 2014 while raising 4 children including a set of twins.

Fell in love with pirozhki at Russian restaurant in Hakodate named "Katyusha".

Focused on the fact that Hakodate was the first place where a Russian consulate was placed, and upon the fact that the pirozhki which was being popular in Japan was mainly "fried" while the original dish was "baked", so ran Marutamagoya as a shop for pirozhki and borsch from 2015.

Visited pirozhki shops around the world, and as Hokkaido Branch Chief of the Association of Cultural Interactions Between Japan and Ukraine, visited Ukraine in June 2017 to eat authentic pirozhki and borscht.

In November of the same year, interviewed Ukranians in New York. In 2018 participated in a cooking workshop in Lviv, Ukraine.

In December 2019, interviewed in Russia, Vladivostok, a sister city of Hakodate.

From 2018, with the cooperation of Hakodate city, formed "The Union of Hakodate Baked Pirozhki" to spread "Hakodate Baked Pirozhki", and work to bring the baked pirozhki using local goods to more people.

Every year in March, they hold the “Pirozhki Expo" in Hakodate Tsutaya Books.

From the experience of working with LGBTQ+ following the death of a friend, works as the representative of "Rainbow Hakodate Project (RHP)", a local project by Hokkaido University of Education,Hakodate, and works to spread awareness of LGBTQ+.

As a part of this, assists in a popular event, "making and eating baked pirozhki with gay people (also known as gay-piro)", and made original rainbow socks with local university students, and holds an event called “Show your True colors".

ロシアと縁の深い元町で、ロシア風の焼きピロシキを、北海道の食材を使い、日本人の口に合うように創作で作っています。

ピロシキに合わせたボルシチは、いわばロシアのお味噌汁。

コトコトスープを取り北海道産のビーツに野菜たっぷりの「煮て緋なる」栄養豊富なスープ。他にも実はウクライナ料
理というロールキャベツは、NYでウクライナ人のおばあちゃんに習い、鍋で煮るのではなく、スープに浸してオーブンで焼き上げるので、キャベツがとろけます。


ピロシキ、ボルシチ、ロールキャベツ、一皿で時空を超える旅の時間をお過ごし下さい。

ロシア風の焼きピロシキを日本人の口に合うように種類豊富に創作で作っています。

日本では「揚げ」が主流ですが、本国ロシアでは「焼き」がメインで、日本のおにぎりのようなもの。しかも、とあるロシア通いわく「ピロシキに似た日本の食べ物は、あんぱん。焼きで皮が薄くてあんがたっぷり」本場ではおかず系から甘いものまで種類も豊富。あんぱん、餡パン…案パン?アイデア次第で、美味しく満腹。

地元の素材を使い、生地も具もすべて手作りで、想いをたっぷり重いアンにして、軽やかに包み込んで焼き上げるので、冷めても美味しく、老若男女どなたのおやつにも食事にもなります。

アジカはコーカサス地方発祥のスパイス調味料。

各家庭でスパイスのブレンドが違っていて、まるたまの「アジカみそ」は独自にスパイスをブレンドして、丁寧に煎り煎りして、日本人の口に合うように作ったオリジナル和洋折衷調味料。

手前味噌だけど、地元の味噌を加えたのがミソ!

ローストしたお肉につけても、ヨーグルトなどを混ぜてお肉を漬け込んで焼いても、そのままご飯にのせて食べても、スープで溶いてスープカレーのようにしてもおいしいです。
